In August 1999 Munhall Retirement Residence opened in the Borough of Munhall. The building was a new construction designed to enhance the architecture of the existing neighborhood and made the distinction of being awarded the 1999 Best of Senior’s Housing by the NAHB Council.
There are 60 units for seniors age 62 and over with each unit containing a full bath, equipped kitchen, air conditioning and call system directly connected to the area’s local emergency dispatch. Ten percent of the units are fully handicap accessible and each apartment contains fire and smoke detectors while the entire building has a sprinkler system.
In addition to the dwelling units, the building contains a lobby with elevator, alternative living areas, fully-equipped commercial kitchen, dining room and laundry areas. A unique feature of the development was a space created for a greenhouse.
The development includes a full block, and residents enjoy apartments in a lovely structure nestled among mature hardwood trees next to the historic Carnegie Library. The building had been designed to reflect the traditional architecture of the community and to respect the grandeur of its stately neighbor. These features truly make Munhall Retirement Residence “More Than Just A Place To Live”.
